The F.D.A. recognized the seriousness of the situation and quickly moved to shut down the fast tan business. Thus, the first commercial attempt at indoor tanning failed. For the following years, the industry carried a stigmathat was not overcome until the late 1980’s.
Later in that same decade, indoor tanning salons were re-born. Lower output UV lamps were introduced and have since become a popular means of achieving the results that other products and innovations failed to deliver.
